SEO for medical practices is the work that helps patients find you when they search on Google, Google Maps, Bing or an AI assistant: a complete Google Business Profile, a page that answers each question patients ask, a technically sound website and practice information that matches everywhere it appears. MAD Lion Digital is a physician-led marketing agency based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we do this work in English and Spanish.
What’s included
- Google Business Profile: categories, services, hours, photos and booking links, plus profiles for providers and departments where Google’s guidelines allow them.
- Local listings: the same name, address and phone number on Healthgrades, Zocdoc, Yelp, insurance directories and Bing Places for Business.
- On-page SEO: a page for each service, condition and location, with plain-language answers, physician bylines and short FAQs.
- Technical SEO: crawling and indexing in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, page speed, mobile usability and internal links.
- Structured data: schema.org markup for your practice, providers and locations that matches what visitors see.
- Content: articles that answer real patient questions, checked for medical accuracy.
- Bilingual SEO: Spanish pages linked to their English versions with hreflang tags.
- AI search visibility: checks of how Google’s AI features, ChatGPT and Copilot describe and cite your practice.
How local rankings work
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and how well known a business is, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help. It also says there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. That is why we focus on accurate profiles, useful pages and a steady flow of honest reviews.
Medical practices have extra rules. Google allows a separate profile for a physician who sees patients directly at a location, recommends that a solo practitioner with a practice brand share one profile with the practice, and lets hospital departments that work as distinct entities have their own. Getting this right avoids duplicate or suspended listings.
Visibility in AI search
Patients can now ask AI assistants for health information and doctor recommendations, and the answers cite a handful of sources. This is what the providers themselves document about how their tools find those sources, as of October 2026:
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet. Google says there are no additional requirements or special schema, and that these features may run several related searches (a “query fan-out”) to find supporting pages. Its advice: allow crawling, keep important content in text, make structured data match the visible page and keep your Business Profile current.
- ChatGPT search: OpenAI says sites that opt out of its search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. ChatGPT may turn a question into narrower queries and sometimes works with other search providers.
- Microsoft Copilot: Microsoft says that for certain information requests, Copilot is grounded in web search results, centers its answer on high-ranking content and adds linked citations. Bing Webmaster Tools reports how often your pages are cited in Copilot and in Bing’s AI summaries, and Bing recommends clear headings, FAQ sections, regular updates and a current Bing Places listing.
No provider promises that a particular site will be cited, and neither do we. These foundations are the part a practice can control. Our article on how AI search is changing the way patients find doctors goes deeper.
Who it’s for
Physician practices, multi-location clinics, hospitals and med spas that depend on patients finding them nearby. We also do local SEO for retail, food service, cleaning services and other local businesses.
How we work
- Diagnosis. Our free marketing diagnosis reviews your Business Profile, listings, website and Search Console data, and how AI assistants answer patient questions about your specialty and area.
- Plan. A prioritized list of fixes and new pages, with target searches for each location and provider and goals measured in calls and appointment requests.
- Execution. We fix technical issues, rebuild key pages, clean up listings and publish content reviewed by your physicians on an agreed calendar.
- Monthly follow-up. Search Console and Bing data, Business Profile calls and direction requests, AI citations and the next month’s priorities.
Health content is held to a higher standard
Google says its systems give even more weight to experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust on topics that can affect people’s health, and it encourages accurate bylines. We add clear authorship to every clinical page and have it reviewed by your physicians. If your site uses analytics or ad pixels, read our guide to HIPAA and tracking pixels first.

Frequently asked questions
How long does SEO take for a medical practice?
Profile and listing fixes can help sooner, but new pages and content usually take months to gain ground, depending on your specialty and competition. We report progress monthly.
Can you guarantee a top ranking or a mention in ChatGPT?
No. Google says there is no way to pay for a better local ranking, and no AI provider promises that a given site will be cited. Anyone who guarantees either one is guessing.
Do we need pages in Spanish?
If you serve Spanish-speaking patients, yes. Spanish pages linked to their English versions with hreflang tags, as Google recommends, help Google show each patient the right language.
Should we block AI crawlers?
Blocking search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot keeps your pages out of ChatGPT search answers. Training crawlers, such as OpenAI’s GPTBot, are a separate business decision.
